To take care of your crowning glory there are some universal do’s and don’ts which should be followed religiously. These few precautions and practices will ensure that you become the proud owner of healthy and shiny hair. Given below are the tips to further improve the health of your hair.

- Always gently comb the hair through the ends first, working toward the roots to reduce the breakage.
- Eat foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and protein, like salmon, spinach, nuts, eggs and poultry.
- Regularly massage your scalp to improve blood circulation.
- Do not vigorously rub with a towel or use a brush on wet hair.
- Always use a wide-toothed comb to detangle the knots
- Deep condition your hair once in every two weeks to put life back in to your hair.
- Trim your split ends every six weeks, even if planning to grow hair.
- Avoid excessive use of chemicals and hot tongs and hair dryers.
- Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
- Avoid fried food
- Keep your scalp and hair shining clean
- Make sure that your brushes and combs are clean
- Never share your combs, brushes or towels with anyone as dandruff is infectious

Miscellaneous tips for hair care
- To soften the dry hair, make a paste of two handful of hibiscus leaves and add five teaspoons of honey to it. Apply this on the scalp covering the hair. Cover with a shower cap for 45 minutes and then shampoo and condition your hair. Use this treatment twice a week.

- To prevent the premature greying of hair, eat or chew a small quantity of raw curry leaves every day.

- To condition the hair, take 2 table spoon of olive oil, 2 table spoon of melt vinegar, 2 eggs, 5 drops of rosemary oil, 5 drops of lavender oil. Mix and massage to the hair and combine through. Wrap towel or cover for 30 minutes and shampoo it out.

Home Remedies for controlling Dandruff
- Soak two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds (methi), overnight. Make a paste of these seeds in the morning and apply it on the scalp, so that the whole scalp is fully covered with the paste. Leave it on for half an hour and then wash it off with a solution of Ritha nuts or Shikakai. Make sure that the scalp is thoroughly cleaned.
- Take 2 tablespoons of curd, mix in 3 drops of honey, and 3 drops of lime juice. Mix this thoroughly, and apply it to the scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off. Scrub your scalp thoroughly so that all the mixture is washed off.
- Warm some coconut oil in a bowl. Massage this into the scalp for at least 15 minutes. Dip a towel in hot water, wring it and then wrap the towel around the head. Keep this on for 15 minutes, or for as long as you can feel the heat on your head. Wash your hair in hot water making sure that all the oil is completely washed off.
- Rub lime juice into your scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash your hair thoroughly. Repeat this process every time you spot dandruff in your hair.
- Mix equal quantities of olive oil and almond oil in a bowl. Rub this mixture into your scalp. Leave it on for about 5 to 10 minutes, and then wash it off.
- Apply Aloe Vera gel to your scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes, and then shampoo your hair.
- If you have thyme in your kitchen, boil 4 or 5 leaves in a cup of water for 10 minutes. Cool the concoction and then apply it to the scalp. Leave it for half an hour. Then rinse it off, and shampoo your hair clean.
As a great natural conditioner use one tablespoon of fat mayonnaise, massage gently and work it into the scalp and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before washing your hair with shampoo.

Prepare a home-made mix of a mushy avocado, a ripe banana and one egg yolk. Spread it in your hair, you can even massage it gently. Wrap the hair with a shower cap for 20-30 minutes then rinse with warm water. Eggs are rich in vitamins, they moisturize and improve the structure of the scalp, also giving your dry hair a beautiful shiny look and natural softness.
