- Try to follow a consistent and clear approach in disciplining your child. Always follow the principle-Practice what you preach. - While talking to your child, try to get down to his level by kneeling down or sitting next to him. This will take away the difference in size and height in other words an intimidating position. The child will be at ease will remain focussed. - To keep your focus on child, always make an eye contact while talking. It shows the honesty in your approach and also gives a feeling to the child that he/she is important and focus of your attention. - Try to satiate the thirst for knowledge. Young children are always very curious and ask lots of questions. Answer them patiently and with lots of honesty and enthusiasm. - Boost the child’s sense of responsibility by allowing the child to help you in simple chores. They can help in laying the table or watering the plants. They will feel tremendous feeling of achievement and confidence. - Try to build their social skills by allowing them to play with other children of their age. With the shift in society towards nuclear family where the children have limited interaction with their other family members (including cousins of their own age), it is important to inculcate in them the habit of sharing and caring. This will help them to adjust well in their surroundings in the long run. - To develop their communication skills, always speak in clear and complete sentences. Always avoid using objectionable language and gestures in front of the child and encourage the child to use correct and appropriate words. Teach them how to show respect to elders while addressing them and how to speak to their friends.
